Le Marquette

Project Summary:

Marquette Residences is a multi-unit residential development comprising several three-story plexes. The development introduces 22 contemporary condominiums. Each unit is designed to maximize spatial comfort, daylight, and connectivity to the surroundings while maintaining privacy and clarity of access. The building form is carefully articulated to complement the scale and character of the street.

Architectural Vision:

The architectural intent behind Marquette Residences is to reinterpret the traditional Montreal plex through a modern lens, celebrating texture, contrast, and clarity of form. The buildings are shaped by a strict modulation of solids and voids, vertical layering, and façade craftsmanship. Each plex is designed to be individually separate, yet part of a cohesive ensemble through rhythm, and materiality.

Key Features:

Form and Massing: A configuration of solid blocks with an interplay of Solid and Void. Entrances are framed through subtle voids and changes in plane, using the contrast of shadow and material depth to mark points of access. The third floor is recessed and clad in metal siding, providing material contrast and reducing the building’s perceived height. This setback also creates private outdoor space while maintaining the human scale from the street.

Monochromatic Facades: Each building adopts a monochromatic color strategy, reinforcing a distinct identity within the repetition. This restrained palette allows the textural richness of the masonry to become the main expressive medium.

Masonry Detail and Expression: The façade is animated through a masterful use of brick patterns, in-cluding: Flemish bond (extruded), soldier courses, and Running bond (as the dominant field pattern). These patterns introduce a layered texture that gives each taçade a dynamic, almost woven appearance.
