Le Millebook

Project Summary:

Le MileBrook is a large-scale residential and mixed-use development in Montreal, composed of nine mid-rise buildings. It aims to create a complete community combining modern rental housing, commercial space, and integrated green networks across a formerly underutilized site. With over 800 units planned and public-facing amenities.

Architectural Vision:

We viewed Le Milebrook as a sustainable urban village walkable, community-driven, and built with architectural coherence. Despite the scale of the site, the buildings are broken into repetitive volumes with modulated façades, giving them an approachable, almost residential grain. Key to the architectural language is the use of horizontal breaks and stepped massing, while emphasizing the relationship between the buildings and their landscaped surroundings.

Key Features:

Massing Strategy: Each building ranges from six to eight stories, sculpted through a series of setbacks. These not only reduce visual mass but also generate usable terraces for residents and promote light penetration at the street level.

Territorial Composition: The complex follows a perimeter block typology with interior courtyards, promoting passive surveillance and communal life. Outdoor pedestrian routes link the buildings internally, forming a semi-private network of social and green spaces.

Programmatic Integration: Ground floors feature commercial and social functions that activate the public edge. Upper floors are residential, with a mix of studio to three-bedroom units. Rooftop vegetable gardens, green roofs, and terraces provide urban agriculture and climate conscious design interventions.
